Here’s a change from all the tough climbing! Our team is now on safari and having an incredible time. Animal encounters have included a leopard (an unusual animal to see, even in this rich gamepark) and a total of 12 lions, including 3 males and 2 females that were within 3 feet of our landcruiser! It has been unbelievable.

We all made it down in one piece, descending 13,000 feet in a day and a half. It was a long hard descent, but made easier by the beautiful rainforests and views, as well as thoughts of the hot showers and beers waiting back at our lodge. As this is being written, 8 out of 9 of our climbers are standing on the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro — at 19,340ft — “Africa’s highest point and the world’s highest free-standing mountain” (quoted from a congratulatory sign at the summit). The word from our team on Mt Kilimanjaro is that everyone is fine, healthy, and enjoying a great climb. They have spent 4 days climbing up from the gate at 6,000ft.
