The Ecuador Expedition

Two mountaineers navigating a glacier on a Gasherbrum II Expedition

Alpenglow Expeditions’ 12-person team from Mount St Mary’s and Loyola are back down in Otovalo, enjoying the well-deserved comfort and luxury of one of the finest hotels in the region, and the amazing shopping bargains at the largest local market. They deserve their rest and relaxation after their toils up Mt Cotopaxi. Heavy fresh snow made the going very tough, and the team had to make a difficult decision not to attempt the summit, even though they were just 500ft away. The avalanche danger was just too great to proceed. Safety is always the primary issue, and this team will have life-long memories of a wonderful climb and their great achievement in getting so far regardless of the conditions.

Alpenglow Expeditions’ second Ecuador group of the year will be flying into Quito on Sunday to start their attempts.
