The Sun Finally Shines in Basecamp

Two mountaineers navigating a glacier on a Gasherbrum II Expedition

Well, the team arrived at basecamp four days ago and continued to endure monsoonal weather until this morning when they awoke to sunny skies! Perhaps this change in weather was a result of the 3 hour long Puja (Buddhist blessing ceremony) they had last night outside in the rain and snow. They plan on spending the next few days practicing crevasse rescue and avalanche beacon tecniques near BC, while the sherpas and guides start setting the route to Camp I.
I’ll be back with more soon!
