At the Village of Phortse

Two mountaineers navigating a glacier on a Gasherbrum II Expedition

Continuing our acclimatizing trek up the Khumbu Valley, our team is today in the village of Phortse. This is a great place for us all to be, as it is the home town of the Sherpas that are a key part of our team. We have all enjoyed this opportunity to visit with the Sherpas’ families, and see life as it is really lived in this remote village. One of the highlights has been chowing down on the local yak yogurt, swilled down with yak milk. Yummm!

Suitably refreshed, we all set out tomorrow on the final three days of trekking to the base of Ama Dablam. By the 19th, we should be set up in Basecamp, and ready to start our work on ascending the mountain.

More updates to come as we finish the trek and start our work on Ama Dablam.
