Huayana Potosi

Greetings from sunny Aspen, CO. The first season in Bolivia ended with total success. All five team members, Anthony, Craig, Adrian, Jaime and Trevor successfully summited Huayana Potosi on another incredible day. We are all in love with Bolivia and can’t wait to return next year!
Adrian is training for his AMGA Alpine exam and will be in and out of contact until October when we start digging out the telemark gear and ice tools. You’ll hear from us periodically this fall, so make sure to check back! Can’t wait for the snow to start falling here!

Ian’s post from Bolivia follows and we expect more from him soon, but we also wanted to let you know that another AlpenGlowExpeditions team is preparing to leave soon. In a couple of days, we’ll have a first report from that Himalaya-bound team. Meantime, from Bolivia:

Well, the group is complete now that Desiree has joined us and enjoying much deserved R&R in Copacabana. Brad and I summited Pequeno Alpamayo two days ago in a whiteout. Here is a recap…

First the news from Ian in Bolivia:

Desiree and Ian have successfully summited Hyuana Potosi!!! Brad was forced to make a difficult decision, and turned around with our other guide Renee at 5500 meters due to extreme cold. The team is now back in La Paz recouping and trying to eat as much as possible. Stay tuned for a full dispatch coming soon…

Meantime, the team for Cho Oyu is gathering in Kathmandu. From there, they will be flying to Lhasa. After some sightseeing and final preparations, they make a Jeep trip through Xigatse and Tingri, then hike out to Base Camp. 

Where to begin? After a couple of amazingly tranquil days in Copacabana and on Lake Titicaca our team headed back into the mountains and Huayana Potosi base camp. Joining our team were Renee, our local guide, and Virginia, our cook and the first Bolivian woman to summit Huayana Potosi. While we continued our acclimatization we honed our technical ice skills on the nearby glacier during the day and by night Brad and Ian were humbled in 500 rummy card games where Desiree cleaned house.
