Pequeno Alpamayo

After a couple of days in La Paz, Eszter and Sonni are heading back into the mountains with Jaime. They will first attempt Huayna Potosi and hopefully we will hear details from them soon! In the meantime, feast your eyes on these happy faces from the first portion of the trip!

We received a very brief update this morning from Jaime:

Alpenglow’s first trip to Bolivia is in the mountains and we are happy to be here.
In town we experienced all of the classic Bolivian challenges—lost luggage, missed flight connections, and road blocks caused by strikes. (A small town is trying to become the provincial capital and decided to block the main road to Copacabana to prove their worthiness.)
But despite all of this, we are loving Bolivia. Lake Titicaca and the Isla del Sol were stunning, the lama steaks have proven to be tasty, and the base camp we are now in is one of the most beautiful I have visited.

Adrian just called from the satellite phone to tell me that he was sitting on the summit of Pequeno Alpamayo with the full Bolivia team all wearing shorts and t-shirts. Apparently the weather has been perfect. Great news!

To all, Hola de La Paz. Great weather and amazing sights of the city and the mountains have greeted our team Brad and Ian.

Upon flying into La Paz one is struck by the terrain of the vast flat altiplano dramatically interrupted by the massive mountains of the Cordillera Real. With our ultimate objective Hyuana Potosi front and center, our enthusiasm, already high, is boosted. We have spent the last couple of days acclimating, yesterday touring La Paz, and today visiting the fantastic pre-incan ruins of tihuanaco.

Ian’s post from Bolivia follows and we expect more from him soon, but we also wanted to let you know that another AlpenGlowExpeditions team is preparing to leave soon. In a couple of days, we’ll have a first report from that Himalaya-bound team. Meantime, from Bolivia:
