The North Face Store, NYC - Thursday October 19, 7:30pm

We all made it down in one piece, descending 13,000 feet in a day and a half. It was a long hard descent, but made easier by the beautiful rainforests and views, as well as thoughts of the hot showers and beers waiting back at our lodge. So everyone is down and looking forward to beginning our 3 day safari in the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania’s most famous game park, and a place with the world’s highest density of big game in the world.

Here’s a change from all the tough climbing! Our team is now on safari and having an incredible time. Animal encounters have included a leopard (an unusual animal to see, even in this rich gamepark) and a total of 12 lions, including 3 males and 2 females that were within 3 feet of our landcruiser! It has been unbelievable.

What better place to write about climbing Kilimanjaro than sitting in the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge staring out at the crater and the countless animals roaming inside.
